This is without a doubt the best anime I have ever watched.
I didn’t like Higurashi because of the humour, gore, or fanservice (although it did have quite an amount of all three). I was attracted to this anime because of the intricate, underlying story that I knew just had to exist. I stuck through all of season one (which is nothing compared to season 2), and was greatly rewarded in Kai, where the antagonist is finally revealed; most of the emotional parts of the story unravel here.
The question arcs are finally answered, and you can finally empathize with all of the characters without thinking “They’re just killing each other for the hell of it.” For some reason, Higurashi impacted me greatly. I quickly bought the VN’s, and was astonished by the pure emotion and story they held, far superior to the anime.
I do beg everyone to actually take the time to sit through all of the gore in season one, and finally reach season two, where the best part of the masterpiece is hidden. One shouldn’t just judge an anime based on how it appears are how “bloody” it is, but on the underlying messages that it’s creators try to share with all of us. Nano Desu~
